"You're a hypocrite!"

She stops. Her neck stiffens. "Don't you use that word on me."

"why not? you lied. that's that"

she sniffs and i see her eyes starting to swell with heartache and tears

"you said you'd come! i was the only one without a parent! i had to walk out alone! i.."
i choked. and struggled with the words that use to come to me easily.

she was standing. shaking involuntarily. her working suit a mess now as her hands clutched and unclutched the fringes of her skirt.

"why don't you ever say you love me anymore?" and the mascara smeared. upon the pure white sheen of foundation. My eyes, unseeing, watched darker stains grow.

i slammed the door and cried. trying to perge the hurt inside of me.
and on the bed i saw something deeply etched in my mind

i was five and she was sitting next to me
talking to me as she always does every night
and i said. naively and without hesistation
"don't ever die ok mummy?"

and the transitory image vanishes

Yours Truly
